  Acting

Young Conservatory

Daily classes in acting, singing and dancing will be augmented with mask making and fundamental video creation. All classes are led by working professional singers, actors and dancers. The two week workshop will end with a presentation of the process in each of the disciplines to date. Two weeks of full days of creativity are designed with two goals in mind:

                1) Nurturing, developing and building confidence in the                     child’s creative impulse

                2) Team building in a non competitive format

This class is designed for those people over the age of 7 and level will be determined by the comfort of the student.

Participation in the senior (Ruby) section is by INVITATION ONLY. Please contact the Conservatory for more information about how to receive an invitation,

The Workshops

Each day there are classes in dancing (fundamentals of classical ballet to hip hop and jazz) singing (fundamentals of classical voice to modern pop singing) and acting (fundamental principals of acting for classical theatre, film and media). The workshops include daily physical and imaginative warm ups, courses in theatre practice and history, some additional courses in arts and crafts and frequent playtimes and rest times.

Sections

There are three sections of participation. The levels are determined by age and experience, as well as ability and comfort. It will be more fun for the participant if they can take part in the classes at a level in which they can easily grow, play and develop an appetite to get better.

Because there are different disciplines (acting, dance and singing) not everyone will be at the same level in each discipline.

We prefer not to attach these sections to any kind of “Status”. Artists can operate at a high level at a very young age (Dakota Fanning, Anna Paquin, Megan Follows) and at a senior level (Clint Eastwood, Gordon Pinsent, Joanne Woodword) and at every age in between. One age is not superior to any other when it comes to being creative.

We separate students into three sections for the benefit of the participants: in smaller groups, they can join in all of the daily activities with confidence. They can develop in these small sections with the full, personalized and focused support of the teacher until they are prepared to move to a different degree of difficulty.

L. M. Montgomery said in The Alpine Path that there were three colours that were everywhere on Prince Edward Island – each one as important as the others. Our three sections are named after these three colours: Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby.

Emerald  Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 4:30 pm Lunch 12- 1 pm

This section is designed for young people who have some training in one discipline and almost no experience in the other two disciplines. Participants in this group are usually between 9 and 12 years of age.

Sapphire Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30 pm Lunch 12- 1 pm

This section is designed for young people who have some experience and training in singing (with some classical fundamentals) dancing (especially some ballet and classical jazz) and acting (with some experience in fundamental principals of acting). Participants in this group are usually between 12 and 15 years of age.

Ruby Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30 pm Lunch 12- 1 pm

This section is designed for young people who have extensive experience and training in singing (especially classical fundamentals) dancing (especially ballet and classical jazz) and acting (with experience in fundamental principals of acting). These students are often considering a career as a professional artist. Participants in this group are usually between 15 and 18 years of age.
